NORRISTOWN, PA - Charlotte (24-12-1, 9-3 A-10) erupted for four runs in the fifth inning and tacked on three more in the sixth to defeat Saint Joseph's (13-25, 5-7 A-10) in Atlantic 10 baseball action at Latshaw-McCarthy Field, 11-1. Junior Matt Godusky went 3-3 at the plate to lead SJU.
The 49ers took the early lead in the game scoring twice in the second inning on a solo home run by Chris Taylor and an RBI single. They then tacked on a third run in the third off Hawk starter Jeff Williams.
UNCC took charge of the game in the fifth scoring four time with two outs. After a single and a walk, Taylor delivered a two-run triple and scored as a relay throw to third base went out of play to make it 6-0. They added a seventh run and chased Williams from the game after back-to-back double.
The Hawks threatened to get back into the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, loading the bases with no one out. A double play, however snuffed out the threat as SJU managed to push just one run across.
Three more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh forced the game to be called after seven innings due to the A-10's Sunday 10-run rule.
Williams (2-4) suffered the loss allowing seven runs on nne hits in 4.2 innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Charlotte's Adam Mills (5-2) earned the complete game win striking out 12 batters.
