PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomore Abdulai Jalloh has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for January 3.
The Hawks have also moved to the top of the NCAA statistics for free throw percentage, converting 80.8 percent on the season, through games of January 2.
Jalloh led the Hawks during last week's West Coast trip, in which SJU went 1-1. He averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists, while shooting 52.3 percent (11-for-21) from the field, 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from 3-point range and 95 percent (19-for-20).
The 6-1 guard from District Heights, MD, led Saint Joseph's with 21 points in a 70-66 win at Saint Mary's. He made 5-of-9 shots from the field and hit 9-of-10 free throws in the win.
In the Hawks' 102-94 loss at eighth-ranked Gonzaga, Jalloh posted a team-high 27 points. He made five of the Hawks' 15 3-point field goals, as SJU set a new McCarthey Athletic Pavilion record. Jalloh also went 10-for-10 from the foul line and handed out a career-high seven assists.
Jalloh currently leads the Hawks in scoring with 16.8 points per game and is tied as the team's top rebounder with an average of 5.2.
Saint Joseph's (5-4) opens Atlantic 10 play on Wednesday evening, Jan. 4, against Xavier at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Game time is 6 p.m.
