NORRISTOWN, PA (4/02/04) - Junior Al Braun hurled eight shutout innings, striking out a career high nine batters, as Saint Joseph's (10-37, 4-14 A-10) salvaged the final game of a threee-game series with Fordham (20-22-1, 10-8 A-10), 7-2. Freshmen Mike Gentile and Matt Godusky each had a pair of hits for the Hawks. Braun (2-5) was in command all game long scattering nine hits and not walking a batter through eight innings. He came out for the ninth, but after surrendering a couple of hits was replaced by freshman Adriano Petrutz who shut the door. Fordham got a strong outing from Rob Semerano (4-2). Semerano allowed just one run and six hits in seven innings of work. SJU got on the board in the third when Godusky tripled and scored on a ground ball by Ryan Stadanlick. SJU then broke the game open scoring six times in the bottom of the eighth off Ram relievers Javier Martinez and Shingo Mitsomuri. Stadanlick had three RBI, while Gentile and Nick Baldasari each had two. Greg Smith went 3-4 for Fordham, while Tim Short added a couple of hits. SJU closes out the home portion of the schedule next weekend hosting St. Bonaventure in a three-game A-10 set.
