PHILADELPHIA - A limited edition Saint Joseph's "Hawk Bobble-Wing" doll will be given to the first 3,000 fans at Saturday's SJU-Drexel game at the Palestra. Game time is 2 p.m.
The item, which replicates the famous Saint Joseph's Hawk mascot, is the first of its kind. The giveaway is sponsored by HiFi House and LG.
The Saint Joseph's Hawk mascot has been flapping its wings for more than a half a century, having celebrated its golden anniversary in 2005-06. One of the most famous mascots in college sports, the Hawk is best known for staying in constant motion by flapping its wings throughout every basketball game and representing the Saint Joseph's motto, "The Hawk Will Never Die".
The idea for the Hawk as a mascot was originated by Jim Brennan during the 1954-55 season.
A number of tickets still remain for the game and can be purchased at the Saint Joseph's Ticket Office (610-660-1712) or at the Palestra on the day of game.
