NORRISTOWN, PA (04/23/02) - Reigning Atlantic 10 Conference player of the week, junior Mike Walls went 4-4 at the plate, extending his hitting streak to 14 games, and drove in three runs to power Saint Joseph's to a 15-6 victory over La Salle. With the win SJU improved to 11-30-1, while La Salle slipped to 8-31. La Salle led early 2-0, plating a pair of runs off SJU starter freshman Brian Anecharico in the top of the first. An infield single and a pair of walks loaded the bases and two more free passes forced in two runs. The Hawks, however, scored in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to seize control of the game. Walls had four hits and was at the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning when the game was called do to Township curfew. Junior Kevin Dougher and senior Pace Bradshaw added three hits each for the Crimson and Gray. Anecharico, who tossed 5.1 innings earned the win to improve to 2-0. He allowed seven hits and six runs, while striking out seven and walking seven. The Explorer's Bryan Harvey suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 after giving up seven runs in 3.2 innings. SJU hosts Lehigh on Wednesday and then travels to Swarthmore on Thursday before opening a pivotal three game weekend series against Rhode Island in Kingston.
