BARLEY, WEST LEAD GRAY OVER CRIMSON, 71-47, IN HAWK HOOP HYSTERIA

PHILADELPHIA (11/8/03) - Delonte West and Tyrone Barley scored 16 points apiece to lead the Saint Joseph's Gray team to a 71-47 win over the Crimson team in the Hawks' intra-squad scrimmage, as part of Hawk Hoop Hysteria at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. West shot 7-for-11 from the field in 15 minutes, while Barley was 6-for-9, making 4-of-7 from 3-point range. The Gray team held a 26-22 lead after the first 10-minute period and then outscored the Crimson, 45-25 over the next two periods. The Gray squad shot 67.5 percent from the field while holding the Crimson to a 38.2 shooting percentage. Jameer Nelson had 12 points for the Crimson while sophomore Dwayne Jones had nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Robert Hartshorn added 10 points. Preceding the Crimson-Gray game was an Alumni game where SJU alums played the current Hawk junior varsity. The Alumni scored a 38-30 win led by Harold Rasul ('98) with seven points, four assists and five rebounds. The Alumni team featured former players such as Rodney Blake, Mark Bass and John Griffin. More than 80 former players, managers and Hawks from every decade since the 1940's were in attendance and all were recognized prior to the Crimson-Gray game. The 18th-ranked Hawks open the 2003-04 season on national television (ESPN2) on Friday, November 14 against #12 Gonzaga in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Game time is 9 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
