BOXSCORE2 BRONX, NY - (4/19/03) - A high-powered Hawk offense set the tone in game one, while Fordham pitching took the stage in game two, as Saint Joseph's and Fordham split an Atlantic 10 baseball doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field. SJU won game one 13-8, while the Rams picked up the victory in game two 6-0. In the opener, the Hawks fell behind 5-0 after two innings, but then erupted for 11 unanswered runs to run away with a 13-8 victory. SJU scored three times in the third inning, three in the fourth and five in the fifth. Junior Bill McCollum went 3-4with two runs and three RBI to pace a 14 hit attack. Seniors Kevin Dougher and John Kokol and sophomore Joe DiNubile added two hits each. Sophomore Al Braun shook off a shaky opening frame and threw a complete game scattering eight hits to improve to 2-0. FU's John Baco (1-5) tossed five innings and took the loss. Fordham starter Brian Kelly completely stifled the Hawk bats in game two. The senior pitched a nine inning complete game shutout and struckout 13, while surrendering a single walk, to get the win. Kelly's effort made a tough luck loser out of SJU starter sophomore Ryan Hoagey. Hoagey (1-2) tossed seven innings, allowing 10hits. It was just a 3-0 game until Fordham forced home three runs in the bottom of the eighth to break the game open. The Rams took advantage of a crisp breeze out to leftfield, hitting three home runs. St. Joe's will be off on Sunday for the Easter holidy, but will travel to Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday for a doubleheader. SJU also travels to Lafayette on Tuesday and hosts Villanova on Wednesday in midweek action.
