NORRISTOWN, Pa. (04/13/01) - Sophomore John Kokol went 3-4 and drove in Mike DeVincentis with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to help St. Joseph's (11-15-1) to a 4-3 win over Bloomfield College (3-17). Kevin Kirkby hurled the ninth inning to earn the ninth save of his career and set a new SJU record. The Hawks trailed in the game, 3-2, but rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh to regain the lead. Justin Godusky started the inning with a walkand moved to second base on a ground ball by Kirkby. After a wild pitch moved Godusky to third, DeVincentis singled him home to tie the game. DeVincentis then stole second base. An RBI single by Kokol back up the middle plated the game-winner. Senior Jim Boylan, who was on a pitch count, started the game on the mound and tossed the first four innings, striking out five and not allowing a run. He was relieved by Ryan Woods, who ran into problems in the fifth. A couple of walks and two Hawk errors helped the Decons score three runs to take the lead, 3-2. Only one of the runs was earned. Freshman Scott Gehringer tossed the seventh and eighth innings and earned the victory. Kirkby toosed the ninth for his fourth save of the year and ninth of his career. The nine saves move him passed Chuck Malloy (1991-94) on the team's all-time list. The Hawks and Deacons square-off again on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM. SJU will then take on Delaware Valley College at 2:00 PM.
