PHILADELPHIA (02/24/03) - The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team, 19-4, 9-3 in A-10 play, 3-0 in Big Five play, will be looking for its first undefeated season in Big Five round robin play since the 1979-80 season when its takes the floor tonight in a road game at The Palestra against La Salle, 10-13, 4-8, 0-3. To put this accomplishment in proper persepective, the crazed SJU students that have helped lift the Hawks to a perfect 12-0 home record this season were still dreams in their parents minds when the Hawks last posted a 4-0 city-series record. SJU is hopeful for the return of sophomore Delonte West to the lineup. The Hawks' leading scorer at 19.2 points per game, West missed Saturday's game with St. Bonaventure due to a stress reaction of the right fiblua. He did practice on Sunday night and had an MRI on Monday morning to determine the extent of the injury. If he is not available, look for junior Tyrone Barley to step into the starting role again. Barley tallied a career high 15 points in the team's win over St. Bonaventure and is averaging 12.7 ppg. as a starter. Jameer Nelson (17.4 ppg.) needs just six assists to pass Luke Griffin and move into the #2 spot on the Hawks' all-time assist list. He currently has 518 assists. Sophomore Pat Carroll (12.5 ppg.) continues to lead the nation in three-point shooting, hitting 65-of-130 for 50 percent. La Salle, which has lost all three games since freshman Steven Smith (14.4 ppg., 8.1 rpg.) went down with a season-ending knee injury, is led by freshman Gary Neal. A five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week and current Big Five Player of the Week, Neal has scored 30 or more points five times this season. He averages 19.6 points per game which leads the Big Five.
