PHILADELPHIA. - Saint Joseph's freshman guard Langston Galloway was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week and was also chosen as the Big 5 Player of the Week.
The 6-2 guard from Baton Rouge, La., scored double figures in two victories as SJU upped its winning streak to three and claimed the Philly Hoop Group Classic. Galloway shot 82.3 percent (14-for-17) from the floor, 83.3 percent (5-for-6) from three-point range and was perfect from the free throw line in both attempts to finish the week averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
He scored a season-best 20 points on 7-for-8 shooting as Saint Joseph's defeated Rutgers to win the Philly Hoop Group Classic title. In 31 minutes of action against the Knights, Galloway handed out a game-high eight assists while committing just one turnover. In a road victory at Fairfield, Galloway led the Hawks with 15 points connecting on seven of nine shots from the floor. He also collected five rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Saint Joseph's, now 3-2, plays its next three on the road, with two games against local rivals. The Hawks will visit Drexel on Wednesday and nationally-ranked Villanova on Friday before traveling to Princeton on Sunday.
