NORRISTOWN, PA - Despite banging out nine hits, Saint Joseph's (7-15) could muster just one run and dropped a 7-1 decision to Rider (3-13) at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. Sophomore Jereme Scott and freshman Ben Wendle each had two hits for the Hawks.
St. Joe's was thwarted by Rider starting pitcher Jim Kennedy (1-1). Kennedy scattered nine SJU hits over 8.1 innings of work. He struckout four and walked just two to earn his first win of the season.
SJU plated its lone run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Dustin Onulak. The Broncs' Mike Petrowski then entered the game in and relief and immediately coaxed a lineout double play to end any thoughts of a Hawk comeback.
Rider, meanwhile used a four-run fifth inning to take control of the ball game. Leading 1-0, the Broncs plated four runs in the frame off SJU starter Chris Prescott (0-3). Prescott suffered the defeat surrendering five runs on seven hits in five innings. Sophomores Jeremy Jakubowsky and Andrew Powers each worked two innings in relief, allowing one run apiece.
SJU returns to teh diamond against Villanova on Wednesday.
