NEWARK, DE - Senior Nick Baldasari and sophomore Matt Godusky combined to go 7-10 with five runs and four RBI to lead Saint Joseph's (10-24) to a 10-2 victory over Delaware (14-9-1) at Hannah Stadium. With the victory, SJU matched its win total from 2004.
Baldasari and Godusky ignited a Hawk attack that scored early and broke the game open late. SJU scored three times in the top of the first and added single tallies in the second and third to build a 5-0 lead for starting hurler Matt Gilbert.
The Blue Hens threatened in the fifth scoring once, but SJU answered with two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to break the game open.
Godusky, who was 4-5, narrowly missed a cycle collecting a couple of singles, a double and a triple. Baldasari, meanwhile was 3-5 with three runs. Andrew Heineman also had three hits and junior Greg Mason added a pair.
Gilbert (1-2) tossed 5.1 innings to pick up his first collegiate win. He allower three hits and on unearned run, while striking out four. Mark Imbo, Jake Iampietro, Andrew Powers and Jeff Williams helped to close it out.
The Hawks host Temple in a critical three-game Atlantic 10 series this weekend.
