PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's University baseball program has released its 2007 regular season schedule. The 54-game schedule features a trip to Clearwater, FL, in March and a full Atlantic 10 slate. The Hawks will play 23 home contests at Latshaw-McCarthy Field in Norristown, PA.
The 2007 season gets underway February 9, as the Hawks will travel to Norfolk State for a weekend series. After ten games on the road, Saint Joseph's will head to Clearwater for five games during the University's spring break. The Hawks are slated to face Pittsburgh, Sacred Heart, and Central Michigan during their stay.
March 16 marks the home opener for SJU, as the Hawks take on Long Island University. Atlantic 10 play gets underway one week later when the Hawks travel to St. Bonaventure. In conference play, SJU will have home series against Dayton, La Salle, George Washington, Richmond, and Rhode Island, while traveling to St. Bonaventure, Charlotte, Duquesne, and Saint Louis.
The non-conference portion of the schedule is challenging, with seven games planned against Big East opponents. The Hawks will head to Georgetown for a weekend series in February, and face Pittsburgh twice in Clearwater. SJU will also play two games against Villanova in March and April. In addition to the Wildcats, the Hawks will face a number of local foes, including Delaware, Penn, NJIT, and Rider. Finally, Saint Joseph's will play eight games against teams that played in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, as Elon, Sacred Heart, and Saint Louis reached the field of 64 this past May.
