NORRISTOWN, PA - Coppin State (16-22) broke open a 2-1 ball game with a four-run fourth inning and defeated Saint Joseph's (7-22) at Latshaw-McCarthy Field, 12-2. Senior Nick Baldasari and freshman Jeremy Jakubowski each had a couple of hits for the Hawks.
The Crimson and Gray fell behind the eagles early as errors and walks allowed CSC to plate an unearned run in each of the first two frames. The Hawks, however, cut the lead in half in the third inning as Jakubowski hit an inside the park homerun to right field.
Coppin State bats and Hawk errors then proceeded to allow the Eagles to score runs in each of the next four innings, tallying four in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to push out to a 12-1 lead.
SJU closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth.
Coppin State's Ryan Carrol (1-2) earned the win by pitching 6.0 solid innings. He allowed one run on two hits and struckout two. Hawk freshman Matt Gilbert (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up five runs in three innings.
Coppin finished with 12 runs on 13 hits, but reven Hawk errors accounted for six unearned runs.
