PHILADELPHIA (1/2/04) - The 10th-ranked Saint Joseph's Hawks will open defense of their Atlantic 10 East regular-season title when they begin conference play against George Washington on Saturday, January 3 at the sold-out Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Saint Joseph's has matched the best start in school history with 10 consecutive wins, set by the 1964-65 squad. The 10-0 Hawks are one of 11 unbeaten teams in Division I. The Hawks are led in scoring by National Player of the Year candidate Jameer Nelson, who is averaging 18.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.8 steals per game. George Washington, with a 6-5 record, enters the game having lost its last three, including a decision to #18 Texas.
