Phil Martelli Takes Part in Wooden Tribute

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's head coach Phil Martelli was one of the 15 national coaches who took part in a tribute to legendary basketball coach John Wooden on the website following Wooden's passing on June 4, 2010.

The tribute focuses on Wooden's "Pyramid of Success" which identifies select behaviors essential to achieving success. Each coach shares his personal thoughts on a particular block from the "Pyramid of Success", with Martelli writing about "Self-Control.

Among the head coaches joining Martelli in the tribute were Rick Barnes (Texas), Ben Howland (UCLA), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Steve Lavin (St. John's),Bo Ryan (Wisconsin), Tubby Smith (Minnesota), and Roy Williams (North Carolina).
