Former Muhlenberg ('11) standout goalkeeper Mike Horowitz enters his third season on the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse coaching staff for Spring 2017. After serving as a volunteer assistant coach in 2015, Horowitz was promoted to assistant coach for the 2016 campaign.

Horowitz assists in all facets of the program, with a specific focus on mentoring SJU's goalkeepers and face-off unit and coordinating the scout team offense.

In two seasons under Horowitz’s direction, Saint Joseph’s has produced the 2016 Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in T.J. Jones in addition to six All-Conference defenders and two All-Conference face-off specialists and saw the Hawks earn eight NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

In 2016, Saint Joseph’s ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense (7.88), eighth in face-off winning percentage (60.8%), and 12th in man-down defense (69.4%). Additionally, under Horowitz’s direction, Jones set program records in single-season victories (12) and single-season goals against average (7.47), while SJU’s goalkeeper group combined for the lowest single-season goals against average in program history (7.83).

In 2015, the Hawks led the nation in man-down defense (.800) for the second consecutive year and ranked in the top 15 in scoring defense, and caused turnovers per game.

Horowitz joined the Hawks' staff from Pfeiffer University, where he coordinated a defense that ranked sixth in Division II in caused turnovers as part of the #14th-ranked team in the country. Horowitz coached one goalkeeper to All-America honors, along with three defensemen to the All-Conference Carolinas team.

Before joining Pfeiffer, Horowitz was the defensive assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University for two seasons. During his short time at FDU, Horowitz coached one goalkeeper and two defensemen to All-Conference accolades. In his first season, Horowitz helped guide the team to an 8-8 record, including a 6-1 mark at home. While a member of the Devils’ coaching staff, Horowitz earned his Master’s Degree in Corporate and Organizational Communications.

Horowitz also serves as the assistant coach for the U-19 Israeli National Team. He currently plays with both the field and box Israeli National Teams and played collegiately at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. He was a starting goalkeeper for three years and was an All-Centennial Conference selection both as a junior and a senior. Horowitz ties for fifth all-time in single-season saves (164) and career saves (405).

Horowitz is a native of Randolph, N.J.
