Saint Joseph's University Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner announced several new staff and promotions on Monday. Dr. Eric Laudano has been named senior associate athletics director for high performance, Rob Sullivan '06 has been named senior associate athletics director for external affairs and Amanda Hall has been named associate athletics director for business operations and facilities. Additionally, Christina Foggie has been promoted to director of special projects and special assistant to the athletics director and Stephanie McCaffrey ‘04 has been promoted to business analyst.
Six members of the Saint Joseph's men's and women's tennis squads have been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes, while the both programs were recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, organization officials announced.
The Saint Joseph's golf team has been recognized as a Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team, organization officials announced this week.
Saint Joseph's will face Florida in the opening round of the 12th annual Charleston Classic on November 21 at the at TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina, it was announced by tournament officials on Thursday. The game is tentatively set for 1:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN2 or ESPNU. The Hawks will then meet either Miami (Fla.) or Missouri State in the second round on November 22 and will close out play in the tournament on November 24. Saint Joseph's will also travel to Connecticut for a non-bracketed game on November 13.
The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the women's basketball team schedule pairings for the 2019-20 season on Wednesday. The upcoming season will feature a 16-game league slate for the 14 members of the conference.
Saint Joseph's student-athletes achieved continued their unparalleled success in the classroom, this time during the Spring 2019 semester as the Hawks posted the highest overall grade-point averages in more than a decade. Individually, a total of 342 student-athletes were named to the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll by achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition, 178 students qualified for the Academic Distinction Honor Roll by achieving a 3.5 or higher GPA while 26 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. The overall semester GPA for Saint Joseph's Division I student-athletes was a 3.26 and the cumulative GPA was 3.22, numbers which represent the highest in both categories in 24 semesters of recorded data. The teams that posted the highest grade-point averages in the Spring were women's soccer and men's tennis. To be listed on the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) for the Summer semester. Saint Joseph's honorees are as follows:
Longtime Saint Joseph's athletic administrator Jim Brown has announced his retirement following the completion of his 19th year as senior associate athletic director. In that role, Brown was responsible for all financial and business operations of the department, as well as facilities and game operations.
